Ode to Jules
Jessica Farrington,
T he motto that I try to live by is: I cried that I have no shoes until I met someone who had no feet.
ireland it is said to be a beautiful place.
one would not know that from the pain in your face.
little girls should grow up with ribbons, ruffles and lace.
unfortunately for you and me this was not to be the case.
your parents? yes, you started with two.
but what can you do when there are seven of you?
just when you thought it could get no colder.
your mom left and took those that were older.
if your mom had stayed she could have been a buffer.
either way why did Julie have to suffer.
for you, there was something that could have made it better.
a call from your mom or something as simple as a letter.
many, many days you were hungry and cold.
but to speak on it would have been much too bold.
school would have been a safe place to hide.
but you were forced to stay at home.
and in your heart you cried.
day after day you had to live in fear.
night after night you'd shed your tears.
growing up wondering how could this be.
wondering when god would set you free.
even though you knew god would not
give you more than you could bear.
in your heart you really tried not to care.
you probably felt adandoned and alone.
wishing you had someone who'd comprehend on the other end of a phone.
i won't claim to know all of what your misery is about.
your demeanor is quiet. but you really want to shout!
to tell of the pain your parents caused by cutting your heart out.
there is hope for you to recover beyond a shadow of a doubt.
your agony is what you tried to conceal.
now you are on the road of trying to heal.
i think you are beginning to understand.
god was always there holding your hand.
