Setting a Goal for Success by GAYLE RAMSEY
Article ,
T here are many advantages to working from home as your own boss - like having more freedom to do the things you want and the schedule flexibility to do them when you want. One of the more difficult aspects of working at home is staying focused and managing your time so that you really are able to take advantage of all the benefits.
It’s easy to get distracted at home because that’s where you entertain much of your personal life as well, but there are ways to be successful in both your professional and personal life when working for yourself and one of those ways is to set a goal.
The idea behind setting a goal is to give yourself something to work towards and something to keep you focused. If you have trouble staying on track on a daily basis then it might be a good idea to set yourself a goal for each day or week. Many people create short-term goals that act as steps towards a long-term goal of a year or five years down the road. Having a long-term career goal is important to keep you motivated and pushing the success of your business, and laying out smaller steps to reach that goal will make it easier and less time consuming to achieve.
If you’re used to working in a nine to five office setting then you probably know that you don’t need eight hours to get your work done each day, but because you’re required to be there for that long you pace yourself and spread out your tasks. This isn’t something you need to do as your own boss; you can work in the morning and take every afternoon off or work for just three days a week if you like. Setting a goal will make this possible by reminding you to focus only on tasks that will help you reach your goal and to not get distracted by things that only waste time like responding to insignificant emails and marketing your business to the wrong audience.
It’s important to set goals that you are confident you can achieve in the timeline you specify so not to discourage yourself. Write your goal down and stick it to things that may distract you like the phone or refrigerator. This is the first step to running a successful business from home.
